Promoted by the businessman Bonifacio Eslava, nephew of the musician Hilarión Eslava, the original building, was composed of a small room, with the name of Slavic Hall and capacity for a thousand spectators. It became very popular as a platform for the various facets of popular theater and premiered authors such as Gala, Lorca or Valle Inclán.
Acquired by the businessman Pedro Trapote, the nightclub opened on the night of February 24, 1981, the next day to the coup d'état perpetrated in the Congress of Deputies. Soon it would become one of the places of leisure of reference in Madrid. During the 1980s it was a place for the concentration of characters from the so-called Madrid Movida. Joy Eslava has continued to host concerts, parties and various social events, with the participation of celebrities such as Roger Moore, Pedro Almodóvar, Stevie Wonder and Julio Iglesias.
